My
first step on the path to peace was yoga. I started in 1990 with a "yoga for back pain" class at Upstate Yoga Institute. I found temporary relief from my pain, and a whole lot of peace, and have been practicing and teaching yoga ever since.
My
next step on the path to peace came a few years later when I learned about Ayurveda, India's traditional medical system (see Know Your Dosha: Ayruveda 101, June 3, 2014). I learned about my body/mind constitution (vata-pitta), and about the types of things - activities, exercise, foods, etc - that keep me feeling balanced and well, and those that throw me off.
My
next big step on the path to peace came about 10 years ago when I discovered Polarity Therapy.
I started as a client. At the time, I was a professional writer and editor. I won awards and earned a good salary, but I wasn't happy. I had suffered from chronic neck and back pain for years, and couldn't wait to go home each day to lie down.
I tried for years to make my professional life work. I worked part time instead of full time; practiced yoga; saw massage therapists, chiropractors, physical therapists, acupuncturists, orthopedists, a physiologist and a neurologist. Some helped, but none made a lasting difference.
Then I tried Polarity Therapy and everything changed. My pain started to go away. My stress levels dropped. And my joy increased. The glass became half full, as they say.
One day, about six months after my first session, I looked at Naomi my Polarity Therapist and said, "I want to do what you do." She responded with two life-changing words: "YOU CAN."
So, I quit my job and began my new life. I went back to school and became a certified Polarity Practitioner and Licensed Massage Therapist. I took courses in Craniosacral Therpay, Lymph Massage, Quantum Touch, Reiki, Shiatsu and more. I studied Ayurveda, Buddhism, herbs, essential oils, crystals and yoga.
I changed my diet to include more whole grains, fruits and vegetables and fewer processed foods. I eliminated the whites - white sugar, white flour - which deplete the body of B vitamins necessary to deal with stress. I moved my family from the city to the country. My relationships improved.

In the beginning, Polarity usually helps on a physical level - pain, anxiety, depression, insomnia, constipation, headaches and so on. Since Polarity works by bringing the body into balance so it can heal itself, Polarity can help with just about anything, including grief or trauma from past injuries or abuse, for example.
Over time, people receiving Polarity Therapy often experience changes on a deep, cellular level. Energy increases. Fear decreases. The quality of their lives improves. And then the peace and happiness comes. For them and for me.
